The Worlds Championship is the annual professional League of Legends championship tournament hosted by Riot Games and is the grand finale of each season. Teams compete for the champion title and a multi-million-dollar championship prize. The World Championships has gained tremendous success and popularity, making it among the world’s most prestigious and watched tournaments, as well as the most watched video game in the world.

Creative agency Possible approached us with a brief to create a branded intro to the opening ceremony they were producing. Midnight Sherpa designed several bespoke variations of Riot’s iconic logo based on their various game properties as well as their first original series for Netflix, Arcane. We then animated each logo with inspiration from each property and created a montage which resulted in an impactful opening sequence for the event’s first full-length trailer. Our role also included creating the Worlds ’21 Championship and LOL Esports logos for the event. The result was an energetic fusion of illustrative, graphic, and 3D elements and a fan-pleasing prelude to the show.
